Recently, Microsoft figures out the cause of high battery consumption during streaming media playback in Chromium-based browsers. After doing various tests related to the issue, the company added a new experimental feature “Turn off caching of streaming media to disk ” in the latest version of Chromium Edge in Canary channel version 78.0.256.0 or later. The experimental feature once enabled will improve the battery life of the device during media playback in Edge Chromium. Fix – Chromium Edge Battery Drain during Media Playback

If you want to try the improvement implemented by the Microsoft in Chromium Edge, then here’s what you need to do:

  1. Update to the latest version of Chromium Edge in Canary Channel.
  2. Visit the following address: edge://flags/#turn-off-streaming-media-caching and look for highlighted experimental feature with the name “Turn off caching of streaming media to disk.”
  3. Using the drop-down change the settings from Default to Enabled.
